My fellow loss mama and super brave friend Joanna made this out of heart rocks.

Oak’s third birthday kicked off with an unexpected gift of tree from our good friend Redflower.
The baby comes from a reforestation project in Costa Rica. The baby comes from Oaks “Roble”-the biggest, tallest giants of the high altitude rain forest that can be planted. It is cared for by a community there. It will live for hundreds of years, one of the longest living rain forest trees!
I did some research on trees in Costa Rica. The National Tree is the Guanacaste tree (Enterolobium cyclocarpum). What’s most striking about the tree is that it represents universal equilibrium and sacred creation, the renewal of faith, the power of Mother Nature, and the transient condition of human life. Its strong and firm roots represent the attachment to life. Its hard trunk expresses human will and its branches are the protectors of creative peace. The tree’s canopy is associated with spiritual consciousness.
Oak, your roots are going international.
We are particularly blessed with friends whose own babies connect with our Oak. Though we wish this pain on no one – ever – it’s a very special bond when we find others who truly get it. My friend Harmony and I grew up together experiencing good times and bad, yet nothing can prepare you for losing a baby. All we can do is love, cry, laugh, ache, and yearn together.
We are honored to know sweet Clara Smith through her parents Harmony and Nick Smith.
After the powerful emotion of the Smith wedding, Harmony and Nick surprised us with a little Oak, sprouted from the family of three Oaks in their backyard and found in Clara’s Garden. Like any member of our family, little Oak’s first outing with us was a plane ride back from Minneapolis. Little Oak did just fine and is thriving in his new home. We will continue to give updates on little Oak’s progress.
An incredible thank you to the Smith family.
We envision Clara and Oak playing Duck, Duck, Grey Duck in Heaven.
My dear friend Catherine Keating of There was Supposed to be a Baby shared this passage with me today. It’s from the book Crossing the Owl’s Bridge: A Guide for Grieving People Who Still Love by Kim Bateman.
Thank you to Albert and Jennifer Wang. You are so very thoughtful. We cannot wait to visit our sweet Oak.
