We nicknamed our one and only pregnancy Oak after Oak Creek in Sedona, where we got married. I’ve always loved oak trees. They are rich in diversity, with over 600 known species. These species grow and thrive in concert with, not despite – storms, changes to landscapes, and years of evolutionary change. Oak trees represent respite, peace, and harmony with nature.
I was in a coma when we met Oak. Although we had some names picked out for both boy and girl, something about Oak convinced my husband to make his name official. After I became aware of what happened, I too agreed that Oak is the only name deserving of our rooted angel.
I attended a Return to Zero: H.O.P.E. Organization Healing Retreat in Seattle. These retreats help bereaved mamas connect with the child they lost amongst a group of supportive women who’ve experienced similar losses. While meditating, the guide encouraged us to grow our roots and it was then that I realized, through Oak, my sweet son, I am rooted. My simple goal is to spread his message that every single one of us is able to heal and thrive knowing that You Are Rooted.
